About Forces Family Events
It all started in the summer of 2009, I had been talking online to some
wives and girlfriends of Royal Marines, many of which didn’t live in
quarters.
I met them through facebook and on forums such as Women of the
Silent Ranks and British Forces Sweethearts and I realised that they
might not have the same support network as those living, like myself,
on a patch.
There are many stresses in our lives which are unique to our situation,
and it gives me solace to know that there are others out there that feel
the same way and that there are people who I can talk to.
The weekend started out as a plan to just get away from it all and have
a great night out and meet some new friends. Since my sister’s husband
is in the Army, and doesn’t live on a patch, I asked her to come along
too.
The weekend was a brilliant getaway for many of the ladies and soon I
was being asked when the next one would be planned. Everyone felt it
was wonderful to meet so many women in the same situation and have
a weekend without stress.
It was because the ladies and I found it so helpful and reassuring that I
decided to make them regular events, Ladies R&R Weekends, run by my
company Forces Family Events.
